Since assuming charge in 1973, he has taken the JSS to great heights. Though the JSS was started way back in 1944, it passed through rough waters and faced financial crisis also. It was then that Prof. Vajrakumar burst on the scene and he was a godsend! He rejuvenated an ailing institution from the depths of despair, and transformed it into a top performing premier organization and front runner in Hubli Dharwad.

Prof.Vajrakumar had a humble beginning in Nandikur, Udupi Taluka. After his MA from Pune university he served in different colleges before entering Dharwad. He served in JSS College as lecturer and then as Principal before taking over as Secretary of JSS. He was instrumental in bringing the JSS under the protective ‘umbrella’ of the SDM group. The ‘thinking educationist’ in him started development process in a phased manner. One by one, new colleges were opened in different disciplines like Arts, Science, Commerce, Law, Education, Engineering, and Management. He has been the inspiring force behind various building blocks coming up in the JSS today.

Besides having set up the JSS, Prof.Vajrakumar has contributed much to society. He has made liberal contributions to causes leading to revival and preservation of culture & heritage. His role in making the NSS scheme (National Service Scheme) has come in for wide appreciation. He has written thought- provoking articles in newspapers and journals. The professor set up a housing society exclusively for the employees long back, and many were benefited. His teaching methods and skills came in for recognition, and the Maharashtra Govt honored him with its highest award for Education.
